ISLAMABAD: Opposition leaders on Saturday assailed the government over its recommendations on the Dawn Leaks inquiry report, stating that the government had not done enough.
In a tweet, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan insisted that the report should be made public.
“Dawn Leaks was a deliberate attempt to malign the Pakistan Army and the government should immediately share the complete inquiry report with the public,” he said.
PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq also rejected the government’s recommendations, and demanded that complete inquiry report be made public. “The government wants to hide this report like the Model Town commission report. The PTI wants the report to be made public so that the real culprits can be identified,” he said. “People do not accept para 18 of the Dawn Leaks report. Therefore, the entire report should be made public,” he said.
In a series of tweets, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri also lashed out at the government. He said the matter was related to national security and those responsible for the leak should be proceeded against under the Official Secrets Act.
“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led government has committed another crime by not implementing all the recommendations of the Dawn Leaks inquiry. [The] Criminal conduct of the Sharif government with regard to national security has come out in the open,” Qadri tweeted.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Qamar Zaman Kaira also rejected the government’s action over the Dawn Leaks inquiry report. “We were expecting that the government would try to sweep the matter under the carpet,” he said.
Talking to reporters, he said that first Pervaiz Rasheed and now Tariq Fatemi had been made scapegoats to save the actual culprit behind the leak. “If Tariq Fatemi has taken this step, then it is treason and he should be in jail,” he said.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq also rejected the government’s recommendations over the Dawn Leaks inquiry report. Addressing a big public meeting at Batgram, he said that it was an issue of national security. “The whole truth must come out,” he said.
