ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a disqualification reference filed by the National Assembly speaker against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan until March 16. A five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commission (EC) Sardar Raza Khan, had resumed the hearing, during which Akram Shaikh, the counsel of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), argued that the PTI chairman mislead the ECP regarding the Bani Gala land and did not inform the ECP about the money trail. He said that Imran had used two CNICs at different times, adding that he was neither sadiq (honest) nor ameen (righteous). The counsel for the PML-N informed the ECP that the allegations levelled in two new petitions filed by the PML-N were not included in the reference submitted by the NA speaker. To this, the ECP remarked that the PTI had challenged the commission’s hearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and after the IHC’s verdict the ECP will take any decision in this regard.
