ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police presented its investigation report before the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan as the apex court resumed hearing of Aasma Rani murder case on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar, while hearing the suo moto case, criticised the KP police for its unsatisfactory performance in Aasma murder case and ordered the police to provide a deadline for resolution of the case.
CJP also summoned PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry for his comments praising the KP police. “Fawad says the KP police is exemplary, lets summon him so we know how examplary and efficient the provincial police really is,” Nisar remarked.
Addressing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf district president Aftab Alam, Justice Nisar ordered the PTI leader to present Mujahidullah Afridi, main accused and nephew of Alam, before the court. He also ensured provision of security to the accused if he presents himself before the apex court.
Speaking of Aasma Rani’s sister, Safia Rani’s claims that the police was pressurising the victim’s family to withdraw statements related to the police knowing of threats to the slain, CJP said that he would shift the investigation of the case elsewhere if the accusations are legitimate.
Aasma Rani, a medical student from Kohat, was shot dead by the accused Mujahidullah Afridi for allegedly refusing a marriage proposal. The accused fled the country as soon as the incident occurred, while two of his aides have been arrested by the police.
